- What process does AdvantaClean use for Air Duct Cleaning?
We use a push/pull method to clean your duct work. We will attach a negative air machine to your air handler to create negative air pressure throughout the entire duct work. We will then cover all of the vents to create a greater negative air pressure. We then will uncover the vent that we are going to clean at that particular time and go down it with an agitator known as a air whip or viper. This high pressure blower circulates in the duct work creating all of that dirt and debris in your duct work to become airborne. Once airborne, our negative air machine is able to clean everything out. This process is done down each supply and return trunk line, and each supply and return trunk line. We also vacuum out the air handler.
- What procedures does AdvantaClean follow?
The EPA and NADCA
- What does NADCA stand for?
National Air Duct Cleaning Association
- Do we clean the supply and return lines separately?
Yes, we do.
- What are the benefits of Air Duct Cleaning?
Having your air ducts cleaned improves their productivity by 20%, if there is at least ¼ inch of dust in them. It also generates better airflow and improves the overall quality of air.
- What are some reasons why someone would need to have their ducts cleaned?
▪ The air smells bad
▪ The home or structure was recently remodeled
▪ The branch lines are visibly dirty
▪ There is evidence of microbial growth
▪ Dust or debris is coming out of the vents
▪ There are rodents or insects observed in the duct work
▪ I have a new home and am concerned about construction debris
▪ For general health and hygiene
▪ Residentially every 5 years or as needed
▪ Commercially every 2 years or as needed
▪ Industrially as needed based upon particular usage
- Do we sanitize the vents? What do we use?
Yes, we do sanitize vents when it is necessary.
Microban is a sanitizer that addresses microbial growth. A fogger is used to apply Microban throughout the entire duct work.
- Is sanitation included? Under what circumstances would someone need to have their vents sanitized?
The EPA and NADCA do not suggest sanitizing the unit unless there is a specific need for it. You would need to have your vents sanitized if you suspect you have mold, mildew, insects, an odor coming from the vents, etc. Sanitizing is not typically included in the base price and can be quoted upon request.
- How long, on average, would it take to clean a house with 20 vents?
4 hours
- Should I look for the cheapest price?
We follow the recommended cleaning procedures as outline by the EPA and NADCA. With air duct cleaning, you can not just compare prices. You must consider the process and time spent to clean it as well. For example, some companies use the vacuum collection device alone. This will not get an HVAC system clean. We use tools which are specifically designed to agitate debris which have collected within the air duct system over time, in conjunction with a HEPA filtered negative air machine to remove debris completely.
Also, some companies claim they can clean the system in about an hour. Air Duct Cleaning takes time and the buyer should beware of bait and switch techniques. An average size system can not begin to be cleaned properly in an hour, according to NADCA standards.
The quality of work makes a big difference. A poor duct cleaning job can actually be worse than none at all because it stirs up the dust in the ducts.
